Nagoya City
Nagoya
is geographically located in the center of the main island of Japan, so Nagoya has been
a cultural crossroads since ancient times. Nagoya has outstanding features both
in historical and modern aspects. In 16th century, three Samurai heroes,
Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Ieyasu Tokugawa were all born in Nagoya
area.

At present, Nagoya enjoys the prosperity as a center of various
industries with a population of 2.2 million, making it the 4th largest city in
Japan. Nagoya and its vicinities are best known as an industrial
powerhouse. From high technology sectors such as automobiles (Toyota Motor
Corporation is the most famous in the world), electronics and aerospace, to
traditional industries like textiles and ceramics (Noritake and Narumi are
famous), the city has built a string industrial base. 
In 2005, the EXPO was
held in the outskirts of Nagoya. This was the first World Exposition of the 21st
century and it served as a venue for interactive exchanges of culture, tradition
and technology. In addition, the Central Japan International Airport, called Centrair
was completed in 2005 and it serves as a hub in the aviation network, linking Japan
with the rest of the world.
